Officiating crew appointed for The Fly 2022
We are pleased to announce the crew that has been selected to officiate at The Fly 2022.
12 on-field officials have been appointed across the competition - six referees and six umpires - with experienced officiating mentors assisting the team throughout the event.
Peter Davidson, Tom Hamey, Emma Jones, Michael Leahy, Craig Stephens, and David Swarbrick will officiate the men’s competition, while Hayley Burke, Paula Chandler, Millie Geddes, Chelsea Nasymth-Miller, Lara Owen and Annabelle Stoney oversee the women’s competition.
The team features officials who have appeared at the highest levels, taking charge of World and European Championship finals, and also includes three officials in Davidson, Leahy, and Owen who will take to the field at the World Games Sixes in Birmingham, Alabama this July after all officiating at the first year of The Fly.
The officiating crews will be overseen by Head Officiating Mentor, Phil Pearson, who with other select officiating coaches will provide support and guidance across the event as our officials continue to develop their knowledge and skills within the Sixes format.
The Fly provided a key opportunity in its first year for officials to learn the Sixes game and gets hands-on experience of controlling the new format with elite level players, and will once again provide the chance for a number of newer officials to hone their Sixes skills.
The selection of officials to the World Games following the first year of The Fly demonstrated the opportunities available to officials of varying experience to excel within the Sixes format and illustrated a clear pathway for officials to progress with their officiating both domestically and internationally.
