Rise are looking to lift their team sky-high at The Fly 2022 with the addition of three new players to their Women’s squad.
Sienna Parekh, Milly Home and Zimeng Wu join Rise with this year’s competition on the horizon after being selected in the Women’s team draft.
Head Coach, Matt Sharp, is crafting a team to show spirit and soul as they look to better their result from The Fly 2021 and the three drafted players will be vital in his pursuit. Let’s take a look at how they line up.
Sienna Parekh:
Head Coach, Sharp has chosen goalkeeper, Sienna Parekh, as his first pick.
She is a young, up and coming, active ‘keeper and defensive leader. The right-hander has experience playing in the South-East Premiership as well as for the England U20 national academy.
Parekh is able to shine under pressure, with room to grow as a player even more than she already has. She is excited to get to the tournament and challenge herself, saying: “I think that sixes will suit my personal style of play.
“Playing at The Fly will help me to become a better player, playing against some of the best players in the country.
“I am young and hungry.”
Milly Home:
Rise’s second draft pick is right-handed attack, Milly Home. The England international has played for the U19, U23 and the Senior team, as well as playing in the U19 World Championship (field) and the U20 European championship (field).
Home is a strong feeder and finisher as well as being adaptive to game situations and she can’t wait to get onto the field and rise above the competition, saying: “It looked amazing last year, and I really want to get involved and win!”
Zimeng Wu:
Sharp’s final pick in the Women’s draft is right-handed attack, Zimeng Wu.
She has played for England’s U19s and U23s and prides herself as a creative attacker who has an eye for goal. Wu has a winning mentality and a bravery that will be perfect for Ris as well as being athletic in speed, balance, and stability.
She is excited to promote lacrosse and give the sport the exposure it deserves, saying: “I want to help lacrosse reach a bigger audience and in doing this I hope that it will have a higher chance of reaching the Olympics in 2028.
“It's the sport that has helped me through a lot and the sport that I've fallen in love with, and I really want to help others get exposed to it more.
“Everyone who hasn't heard of lacrosse before but has maybe watched a bit of it through me has really enjoyed it, so I really want to raise awareness for it.”
She would also like to challenge herself against the opposition and get to know everyone at the competition, adding: “I want to really help my transition to an athletic player to adapt to the future of lacrosse and test my fitness to the maximum.
“I would also love to play alongside all the talented lacrosse players around the country that I may not have had a chance to before as they are part of a different nation or club!”
