The Fly featured on BBC Breakfast

Yesterday, The Fly was featured on BBC Breakfast as part of a wider segment about the announcement earlier this week that lacrosse will be included in the Olympics Games in LA in 2028.

BBC Breakfast’s Sarah Rogers was at Mellor Lacrosse Club in Stockport, Greater Manchester, to report on the news where she interviewed Mellor Lacrosse Club President Martin Mochan and young players Callum and Bella.

Rogers also spoke to England, British Lacrosse, and Swift player Luke Mills-Doig as part of the segment where he gave us a little bit of his lacrosse background.

“I started a little bit later than some of these kids around here at Mellor. I started when I went to university aged 18 but had played tonnes of other sports prior to that.”

When asked if he’ll be a part of the British Lacrosse squad that hopes to play at the Olympic Games in 2028, Luke was hopeful.

“I’d absolutely love to be there; it’s been a dream of mine since I was a little child watching the Olympics when I was younger.

“I’ll be about 33 when that time comes around and I’m sure some of these kids at Mellor will be giving me a run for my money when we get there.”

Mills-Doig had a couple of top tips for the youngsters at Mellor who may want to continue playing lacrosse as they get older and possibly try out for the British Lacrosse Olympic team when the time comes.

“The absolute number one [top tip] has got to be just have fun with it because if you’re having fun with it, you’ll be able to push on and develop your skills more; just immerse yourself in the game, enjoy it, and play as much lacrosse as you can and you can’t go far wrong with that.”

Later in the day Mills-Doig was announced as part of the British Lacrosse squad that will be travelling to Hong Kong, China in December to compete in the Hong Kong Sixes event, the first World Lacrosse Sixes competition since the inclusion of lacrosse at the LA28 Olympics was announced.
