The Fly officiating crew selected
The officiating team has been selected for the Men’s and Women’s competitions at The Fly.
A 13-strong crew has been appointed to officiate at the inaugural year of The Fly, utilising the new World Lacrosse 6s rules.
As well as being a new format for the players to get to grips with, this will be one of the first chances for officials in England to get to operate under the new rules.
To assist with the understanding and application of the rules, experienced Lead Officials have also been appointed to provide support to the officiating crews.
Michael Leahy has been selected as the Lead Official for the Men’s competition. He has officiated at both a Field and Indoor Men’s World Championship as well as at the Under 20 European Championship.
Following his appointment as Lead Official for the Men’s competition, Michael said: “I'm excited to lead the officiating group for the mens' side of The Fly.
“It's an honour to be entrusted with a task of this magnitude, and I'm thrilled to be working with so many of England's top lacrosse referees, as well as working in partnership with Paul Bibby.
“I'm confident we'll officiate The Fly in a safe and fair manner, and in such a manner to allow the new and exciting format to showcase both the speed of the game and the depth of ability of England's best players of both codes.”
For the Women’s competition, Paul Bibby has been named Lead Official. He is a highly-experienced official having been a part of multiple Women’s Senior and U19 World Championships as well officiating at the 2017 World Games.
Paul said: “I’m looking forward to being involved in the development of the new 6s format of the game, and both actively officiating with and supporting other officials at the event.”
