Date for The Fly 2022 Draft announced

The Fly is delighted to announce the first ever The Fly Draft will take place on Thursday 24 February.

The Fly 2022 Draft is the coaches’ chance to choose a number of players who they want to represent their team at this year’s competition, taking place in June.

Five men’s players and three women’s players per team will be selected by the team Head Coaches through the draft system, selecting players from an open player pool put together by The Fly selection panel following the application stage.

This will allow coaches to build their starting line up to suit their coaching philosophies, and put together their ‘starting six’.


THE DRAFT PROCESS

Following the announcement of the retained player selections in January, each women’s team already has three squad members selected, while each men’s team has one squad member.  

During the player draft, our women’s team head coaches will make three player selections, while our men’s team head coaches will make five player selections, taking each squad to a total of 6 members. 

Following the earlier application and selection process, each competition has an Available Player Pool from which the head coaches will make each of their team selections. 

The team who finished in 4th place in the 2021 competition will receive the first pick, then 3rd place, 2nd place and finally 1st place.  

The next round of selections will then run in the reverse order, starting with the team who finished 1st in 2021.  

This sequence will continue in a ‘snake’ pattern, until all selections have been made in each of the competitions.
