Hustle announce drafted men’s players
Hustle can confirm the addition of five new players to their Men's squad as they look to power through the competition at The Fly 2022.
Casey Hughes, Josh Turner, George Ievers, Josh Hurry and Ryan Lieber have all been picked to play for Hustle through the Men’s team draft.
As the squad continues to strengthen ahead of the four-day competition in June, Men's head coach Alex Carnegie-Brown has said the chosen players suit the "risky and fearless" brand of lacrosse that Hustle aim to play.
"We want players with good energy, can get up and down and are open in their style," Carnegie-Brown added.
"We also want to make sure we have good balance so we can be exciting in attack and defence."
The five drafted players will be hoping to take their chance and prove they can dig deep to propel Hustle to the title at The Fly 2022. Let’s take a look at how they line up.
Casey Hughes
Hustle’s first draft pick is Welsh international goalkeeper, Casey Hughes.
Bringing a wealth of experience to the team, Hughes has represented his country at the Senior World Championships, the Senior European Championships and has played in the North and South Premiership leagues in England.
He is an explosive and fearless keeper, dominant in one-on-one situations and always prepared to take risks when the game situation requires it.
His experience playing in the Victorian State League in Australia and in the Home Nations sixes will prove invaluable to Hustle’s chances of glory in June.
Hughes says he wants to “play with and against the best” and describes himself as a player who wants to “win at all costs.”
Josh Turner
The second draft pick for Hustle is England international two-way midfielder, Josh Turner.
Turner is an all-rounder, who is good in defence and able to progress play up the field and grab a goal when needed. He has represented his national team at senior level, as well as at the U19 World Championships.
His athletic ability and physical strength looks set to prove vital to his Head Coach’s fast style of play.
Turner has added experience at club and university level, playing in the North Premiership, as well as representing the English Knights in 2011.
His ambition is to put on a show at The Fly to showcase his credentials for a potential spot on the Olympic lacrosse team.
George Ievers
Right-handed attacker George Ievers is Hustle’s third draft pick for The Fly 2022.
English international Ievers is a strong dodger and prides himself on his great tactical awareness and off the ball play.
He has represented his country at the Senior European Championships and boasts a strong background at regional level – representing Yorkshire on several occasions and captaining his county to winning the British National Championships in 2014.
He is returning to The Fly this year after representing Swift in 2021, and calls last year’s competition “an incredible experience from start to finish.”
Josh Hurry
Hustle’s fourth pick in the 2022 draft is England international defender, Josh Hurry.
Hurry is a right-handed defensive organiser who simply doesn't stop and is able to push transition up field at pace, as well as lead the team when pressure or intensity is required.
Along with his outstanding in-game attributes he boasts vital prior experience within the game, after representing his country at the Senior World and European Championships and the U19 World Championships.
He has played in the North Premiership at club and university level, and aims to “adapt his game” at The Fly after hearing good feedback from the 2021 attendees.
Ryan Lieber
Hustle's final draft pick is right-handed attacker, Ryan Lieber.
Lieber, who spent four-years playing lacrosse for the University of California, Santa Barbara up until 2014, boasts qualities such as being a strong feeder, crease player and outside shooter.
A player who has been playing since he was 12 years old, Lieber's ability to play conservatively and perform decisively under pressure, will link nicely with Carnegie-Brown's playing style.
Lieber has revealed he is really looking forward to The Fly this year: "I am a big fan of the six v six format.
"It will also be a great opportunity playing against people from all over the UK which I have not had the opportunity to compete against before."
